Privacy Policy
Last updated: 9 October 2026 (the subscription's free trial, and the skills test drills it unlocks)
This policy covers the CDL Prep iOS app published by Twisted Society AB.
The short version
The app has no accounts, no sign-in, no ads, and no analytics. Your study history stays on your phone. The only things that ever leave your device are a question you deliberately type into the AI tutor, and the app's own explanation of a practice question when you ask for it to be explained differently. If you choose to buy the optional subscription, Apple handles the purchase; we never see your payment details or your Apple Account.
What we collect about you
Nothing. We do not operate a server, we do not have a database of users, and we cannot identify you. There is no account to create and no email address to give us.
What stays on your device
All of the following is stored locally on your iPhone or iPad and is never transmitted anywhere:
- Your state, licence class, endorsements, target test date and daily goal
- Every answer you give, every exam you sit, and your scores
- Your review schedule, topic mastery and readiness scores
- Bookmarks and saved tutor conversations
- Explanations you asked to have reworded
This data lives in the app's private storage. It is included in your device backup if you back up your device (an Apple service governed by Apple's privacy policy, not ours). Deleting the app deletes all of it permanently — we hold no copy and cannot restore it.
What leaves your device
Only when you use the AI tutor. When you send the tutor a message, two things are transmitted to OpenAI, which generates the answer:
- The question you typed, and up to three previous messages in that conversation for context.
- Passages from the official CDL manual that the app selected on-device as relevant.
That is all. No identifier, no device ID, no account, and none of your study history is included. OpenAI processes the request and returns an answer. Their handling is governed by OpenAI's privacy policy and their API data-usage terms.
When you tap "Explain differently" under a question's explanation, the app sends OpenAI that question's own text: its wording and the app's written explanation of the answer. That is the app's content, not yours — nothing you typed, no identifier and none of your study history is included. The reworded explanation that comes back is kept on your device so that asking again sends nothing.
Please do not type personal information into the tutor. It is designed to answer questions about commercial driving rules, and there is no reason to include your name, licence number, address, medical details or anything else identifying. Treat it as a public question box.
Everything else in the app — practice, exams, the manual reader, manual search, your missed questions, your progress — works entirely offline and sends nothing.
Listening is on-device too. When the app reads the manual or a question aloud, it uses the speech voices built into your iPhone or iPad. The text is turned into speech on the device; none of it is sent anywhere, and nothing is recorded — the app never uses the microphone.
Purchases
The app offers one optional subscription. It unlocks the AI tutor beyond three free messages (along with Explain differently), listening to the manual and questions read aloud, the missed-questions review and the skills test drills. Practice questions, the full manual, manual search, mock exams, your study plan and the skills test checklists are free without it.
The subscription may begin with a free trial. If it does, Apple charges you when the trial ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it does.
If you buy it, the purchase is made with Apple through the App Store, under Apple's terms and Apple's privacy policy. We never receive your name, your Apple Account or your payment details. The app finds out whether you are subscribed by asking Apple's StoreKit framework on your device, and sends nothing about it to us — there is no server of ours for it to go to. What we see is the sales reporting App Store Connect gives every developer, which does not identify you.
You can manage or cancel the subscription at any time in your Apple Account settings.
What we do not do
- We do not track you across apps or websites.
- We do not use analytics or crash-reporting SDKs.
- We do not show ads.
- We do not sell, rent or share data. We have none to share.
- We do not use your data to train any AI model.
Children
The app is not directed at children. A commercial driver's licence requires a minimum age of 18 (21 for interstate driving) in the United States. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age.
Your rights
Because we hold no data about you, there is nothing for us to disclose, correct, export or delete on request. You have direct and complete control: your data is on your device, and uninstalling the app erases it.
If you are in the EEA or UK, note that under GDPR we are not a controller of personal data in respect of this app, as we neither collect nor receive any. When you use the AI tutor, the content of your message is processed by OpenAI as described above; when you use Explain differently, only the app's own question text is.
Accuracy and safety
This app is a study aid. Its questions and explanations are generated from official state CDL manuals and each carries a citation to its source, but it is not an official publication of any state agency, of AAMVA, or of the FMCSA. Readiness scores are an estimate of study progress, not a prediction that you will pass. Always confirm current requirements with your own state's licensing agency.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, the updated date above will change and the new version will be published at this URL before the change takes effect in the app.
